Locally Computable Cryptography -- A New Framework for Lightweight Cryptography

Abstract:

The study of locally computable cryptography attempts to construct highly-efficient cryptographic functions that each of their outputs depend on a small number of inputs. In the talk, we will survey the recent theoretical advances in this area of research.

Bio:

Benny Applebaum joined the school of Electrical Engineering as an Alon fellow in October 2010. He completed his undergraduate studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2002, where he earned a B.Sc. in computer science and was a member of Amirim - the special program for outstanding students. He continued his studies at the Computer Science Department of the Technion and received his Ph.D in 2007. Before joining Tel-Aviv, Applebaum spent two years at Princeton University as a Rothchild Postdoctoral Fellowship (2007-2008), and one year as a Distinguished Post-Doctoral Fellow (Koshland Scholar) at Weizmann Institute of Science (2009). Benny is mainly interested in the interplay between cryptography, computational complexity and security.
